Sofía Zapata is Clavija Posponia in Anacoreta: you have to live life lightly

This clown theater play, directed by El Gran Ticlop, sets Sofía Zapata as the only performer under the stage lights of the Malayerba theater.

Encountering Sofía Zapata happened like this: I sought to deepen the profile of Sozapato, her pseudonym as an Ecuadorian illustrator, and I found out that she has so much creativity and wisdom to convey, that one artistic expression is not enough for her. In the Malayerba theater, Sofía was the voice and form of Clavija Posponia (character in the uni-personal Anacoreta), whom we must not forget.

Clowns. All I know is limited to the poem “Laugh crying” about Garrick. I learned that clowns could also feel sadness. And in this play by Clown Theater directed by The Great Ticlop, I found a transparent character, despite its large clown-like shoes and red nose. Transparent and carrying the weight of the past, just like us.

It starts this way. Clavija Posponia enters the scene carrying thousands of suitcases, but she no longer hides her baggage and makes it clear that she does not want to keep her stories just for her. With humor, she unmasks the characters and events that have been her support and limitation, including the man who judges her imagination or the mother who “watches over” her interests. One by one, she frees herself from concepts that have numbed her existence on the road through life. Clavija leaves her past aside so she can live life lightly.

This play had its last function on Sunday, July 8. I have written this review to applaud the initiative, the production and the messages that El Gran Ticlop wished to convey and so that you can look out for their next productions which, surely, won’t disappoint.
